Deputy Chief Minister of Sarawak, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing

KUCHING: Sabahans and Sarawakians will not be fooled by the suggestion of naming Sabah Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal to be PH's prime minister, said Sarawak Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing.

Earlier, the proposal to appoint Shafie, who is also Warisan president, was announced by former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad in his bid to overthrow Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who has only three seats majority in Parliament.

"I know Shafie is a good and capable leader, but don't think that Sabahans and Sarawakians are stupid with the proposal naming him as prime minister's candidate after GE15, simply to seek the support of two East Malaysian states against the proposal.

James, who is also the president of the Sarawak People's Party (PRS), said Malaysian voters would not accept Shafie as PM. He also asked Mahathir to stop playing politics.

The proposal was made as an alternative amid obstacles between Mahathir and PKR President, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim over who should be PH Plus's next prime minister.

If the proposal is successful, it would make Shafie the first prime minister from East Malaysia. It is also seen as an effort to gain the attention of the two states.

The Sarawak government led by Sarawak Party Alliance (GPS) has 18 parliamentary seats and the coalition are seen as a deciding factor following Muhyiddin's simple majority in the Parliament.
